We hope you’ve been enjoying the sunshine! On today’s agenda we have clothing to swap, free movies to watch, outdoor volleyball to play, and more!

Without further ado, here are 5 things to do in and around Victoria today, Thursday, May 9th.

VEC Clothing Swap & Work Party

This clothing swap is the perfect time to find your new favourite outfit! Bring some clothes, swap some clothes, and maybe grab a paintbrush in exchange for a beer or cider!

The VEC staff are looking for volunteers to help paint areas and do general chores around the event centre in exchange for a beer or cider of your choice.

  • When: 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • Where: Victoria Event Centre, 1415 Broad Street

Outdoor Volleyball – West Shore

Head down to the Juan de Fuca Sports Field for an evening of outdoor volleyball and drinks!

The volleyball features recreational co-ed teams of 4’s plus a drink social at the Juan de Fuca Fieldhouse after the games!

  • When: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Where: West Shore Parks & Recreation, 1767 Island Highway

Disaster Movie Screening: San Andreas

Check out this FREE screening of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s earthquake disaster movie, San Andreas courtesy of the City of Victoria as part of Canada’s National Emergency Preparedness Week.

While the movie might not be the most accurate, Natural Resources Canada Seismologist Alison Bird will give a dose of reality during the film to help bust some earthquake myths.

  • When: 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Where: The Vic Theatre, 808 Douglas Street

The Dixie Sweethearts at Hermanns

Head down to the recently saved Hermann’s Jazz Club for a night of traditional riverboat jazz!

The Dixie Sweethearts are made up of talented local musicians and includes piano, trumpet, clarinet, tuba, drums, banjo, vocals, and corny jokes.

  • Where: Hermann’s Jazz Club, 753 View Street

Canadian Whisky Painters 2019 Exhibition

Come see Vancouver Island like you nevver have before at this urban sketch and painting exhibition!

All paintings are made by the Canadian Whisky Painters, a group of artists who paint urban environments with water-based mediums like watercolour or gouache. All of the paintings will also be up for sale.
