A 54-year-old man has succumbed to his injuries sustained during a collision between his motorcycle and a vehicle in Nanaimo.

First responders attended the scene of the collision between the 2004 Kawasaki street bike and a 2006 Dodge Caravan on May 7th at approximately 6:20 p.m on Nanaimo Lakes Road near South Forks Road.

Although paramedics attempted first aid, the motorcyclist’s injuries were too severe and he died on site. His family has been notified.

The investigation is currently in its preliminary stages, however officers believe that the speed of the motorcyclist may have been a factor in the collision.

The 59-year-old driver of the Dodge Caravan, his wife, and 7-year-old grandson all sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital for assessment.

The road way was closed for several hours while investigators including an RCMP Traffic Analyst examined the scene,” reads a statement from the Nanaimo RCMP.

“Both vehicles will be subject to a mechanical inspection and the investigation is continuing.”
