57th annual Oak Bay Tea Party is happening this weekend

Share

Local community favourite Oak Bay Tea Party returns to Willows beach for the 57th consecutive year this weekend!

On Saturday and Sunday, visitors can expect the usual spread of adrenaline-pumping rides, carnival games at the midway, delicious food, live music, and more.

On Friday, before the complete tea party opens, visitors can also make use of the Friday Night Wristbands special which offers unlimited rides all night for $30.

Weekend Highlights

Besides the usual rides and games, the Oak Bay Tea Party has a number of special one-day events.

On Saturday, fair-goers can catch the annual parade, which leaves Windsor Park at 10:30 a.m. and winds through Oak Bay to Willows Park approximately 45 minutes later. A map of the parade route can be found online here.

Then on Sunday, visitors can look forward to an air show, bathtub races, and floating teacup races.

The air show includes an aerobatic aircraft display, Royal Canadian Air Force presentation, and skydivers. The show begins at 2:00 p.m. on Willows Beach.

Meanwhile, on the water, visitors can watch floating bathtub and teacup races.

Now in its 51st year, the bathtub races feature real bathtubs that have been retrofitted with motors to help them zoom across the water.

The teacup races are a little more manual, with massive fibre glass tea cups being powered only by oars. This is a race that requires skill and daring, because if you pull too hard on the oars your saucer may dip into the water!

Less than 2 months to go until the oak bay tea party! Get ready to watch the tea cup races and enjoy all the activities…
