Police and fire officials are investigating a structure fire that broke out at a former nightclub in downtown Victoria early Saturday morning.

The establishment at 1322 Broad St, just steps away from the Plaza Hotel which burned down last week, incurred $150,000 of damage due to the blaze that engulfed the second storey of the building.

According to Victoria Fire Department Deputy Chief Dan Atkinson, the flames were contained to the building, and the ceilings, walls and stairwell incurred the most fire damage.

The space previously housed a nightclub which had several names over the years including Plan B, One Lounge, and Club California.

“The investigation is still ongoing, and the cause is undetermined but [the fire] is suspicious,” Deputy Chief Atkinson told Victoria Buzz.

Several attached apartment suites were evacuated during the blaze as smoke spread through the building. The residents were allowed back inside once crews cleared up the smoke, and no injuries were reported.

This blaze erupted just 5 days after the dramatic fire that consumed the former Plaza Hotel at Government and Pandora on Monday, May 6th.
