Comox Valley RCMP have uncovered a tragic end to a Surrey missing person case that landed on Vancouver Island.

58-year-old Stephen Mapes, who was last seen in Courtenay on March 27th, has been found deceased.

“The Comox Valley RCMP located the man on Monday, May 13, 2019,” says Cst. Monika Terragni in a press release.

Police say his death is not considered suspicious, and that they will not be releasing any further information about this incident.

“Thank you to the public, media, and our policing and community partners for their assistance.”

Mapes was first reported missing to Surrey RCMP on April 2nd. The case was handed over to Comox Valley RCMP after he was spotted in Courtenay last month.
