Saanich Police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with a fire that caused extensive damage to a house in the 200-block of Sims Ave.

The fire broke out at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon and was promptly extinguished by Saanich firefighters.

“Crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the upper floor and roof area of the single family home,” Saanich Deputy Chief Dan Wood told Victoria Buzz.

When police attended the scene, they determined that the fire was suspicious and soon after, located and arrested the suspect for arson. They later learned that he was “associated to the residence”.

He is currently in custody and will appear in court later today.

“The investigation continues,” said Det/Sgt Damian Kowalewich. “Our detectives are still gathering evidence and speaking to witnesses who were in the area at the time.”
