Take part in this beautiful bike ride along Lochside Trail and help raise funds for end-of-life care

Here’s one way to enjoy this beautiful weather and give back to your community at the same time!

The Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation is hosting a 2019 Denis Muloin Ride for Palliative Care on Sunday, May 26th in order to raise funds to support their end of life facilities.

The event entails a beautiful bike ride along scenic Lochside Trail, for which the entry fee per rider is $25 ($40 for a family) – and all proceeds go towards maintaining the Palliative Care Unit at SPH.

This ride is named in honour of former Palliative Care Unit patient Denis Muloin who died in 2014 after a long battle with cancer, and was a passionate advocate for cycling.

“This flagship unit at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital is not just a regular hospital unit. Many
enhancements make it a special place; the feeling of caring and of home is embedded in every aspect,” says Dr. Norgrove.

“When you walk into the Palliative Unit you sense something different; a sense of caring, understanding and support. Thanks to the PCU at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital, families can stay with their loved ones within the community,” added retired nurse Maggi Morton.

The PCU at the hospital has private rooms, private bathrooms, sleeping chairs for family members, and music therapy, all provided to make a patient’s last days as comfortable as possible.

These facilities at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital have been made available as a result of community support through events like the upcoming bike ride.

Last year’s event raised $10,000 for the PCU.
