60-year-old Nanaimo pedestrian succumbs to injuries sustained in vehicle collision

A 60-year-old Nanaimo man has succumbed to injuries sustained after he was struck by a motor vehicle on Monday night.

At approximately 9 p.m. on Monday June 10th, the pedestrian was spotted crossing the intersection of Needham St and Nicol St.

According to witness accounts, the man was running across the intersection against the walk light when he was struck by a pickup truck as the driver was making a legal left turn.

Police, fire, and paramedics attended the scene, the latter of whom treated the injured man before he was airlifted to a hospital in Victoria.

At around 12:45 a.m. that night, BC Coroners Service informed RCMP that the man had been pronounced dead.

The family of the deceased has been notified of his death, and police are conducting an investigation into the incident.

The pickup truck involved in the collision will undergo a mechanical inspection.
