BC Ferries delays alcohol sale on vessels pending liquor license approval

Cracking open a cold one is no longer an option on BC Ferries this summer.

Back in April, Victoria Buzz reported that customers of legal age will soon be able to buy up to two alcoholic beverages with the purchase of a meal on certain at the Pacific Buffet starting June 2019.

This report was based on an internal memo shown to staff members that expressed the company’s desire to pilot beer and wine sales on the Spirit of British Columbia, Spirit of Vancouver Island, and Coastal Celebration vessels travelling between Victoria and Vancouver.

However according to BC Ferries’ spokesperson Astrid Braunschmidt, the company is still awaiting approval of their liquor license application.

“We don’t have an indication of when that will be,” said Braunschmidt. “As soon as we have the license, we’ll be able to identify and confirm a launch date.”

For now, thirsty passengers on BC Ferries’ busiest route will just have to wait until they get to the other side.
