Crews extinguish large multi-unit apartment fire in Saanich (UPDATED)

Update: One person has been found dead and two others taken to the hospital with unconfirmed injuries in the aftermath of the fire.

Saanich Police and BC Coroners Service are investigating.

Earlier: Several fire crews have extinguished a structure fire that started early this morning and blazed for around 2 hours.

Crews from Saanich, Victoria and Oak Bay gathered at Brookside Manor (2623 Richmond Road) at the corner of Richmond and Haultain to battle the blaze.

The 3-story apartment complex was evacuated, and a reception set up at Cedar Hill Recreation Centre for displaced residents.

No injuries have been reported at this time.


UPDATE: Sadly, officials have confirmed there has been one fatality in relation to this fire. Two other people were transported to hospital with unconfirmed injuries.


The fire has since been contained, however Saanich Fire advises that crews are still dealing with the aftermath of the early morning blaze.

Richmond Rd at Carrick is currently closed to traffic.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
