Hikers can now access Juan de Fuca trail after extensive upgrades

Share

After four months of being closed for extensive upgrades, the Juan de Fuca trail is finally open to hikers.

The Sombrio Point Trail revamp began in February 2019 and targeted park facilities at 24 locations in the area.

New stairs, bridges, boardwalks and railings have been installed, along with improved infrastructure that addresses cliff exposure, making the hike a safer experience.

These upgrades conclude Phase 2 of a multi-year project addressing infrastructure improvements to the trail.

Phase 3 is expected to begin in Spring 2020.

The Juan de Fuca trail offers easy to moderate hiking opportunities from the four trailheads located at Juan de Fuca East (China Beach), Sombrio Beach, Parkinson Creek and Botanical Beach.
