PSA: There’s a brand new taqueria that is already serving up delicious Mexican food in Sidney!
Located just minutes away from Glass Beach, Taco Shell restaurant just opened its doors to the public on Tuesday, June 19th.

This new 2367 Beacon Ave eatery is owned by Sidney resident Larry Gorrill and offers classic Mexican fare including tacos, burritos, and homemade guacamole.
Since the only Mexican eatery in Sidney opened on Tuesday, Gorrill says the response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive.
“It’s been amazing – we serve something fast, fresh, and Mexican, and people like that, they like the flavours,” he told Victoria Buzz. “There’s been a lot of comments saying ‘we’ve been waiting for this for years’.”
Taco Shell is the latest addition to Sidney’s thriving local food culture, and its colourful interior presents a cheerful, welcoming vibe.
But it’s nothing new for owner Larry Gorrill
“I’ve been doing this all my life,” he says.
“I’m originally from Vancouver where I had a Mexican restaurant called Casa de Amigos which opened in 1992, and it started as this little hole in the wall and then grew big.”
“Then I took a little retirement and dabbled into other little restaurants, burger joints, etc. but I kept going back to Mexican cuisine. Lately on Salt Spring Island, I owned the El Loco Taco food truck. That blew up into a huge business, which I sold after 5 years.”
“Then I moved to Vancouver Island and there was no taco place around so I did what I did best – opened up a taco joint!”
Taco Shell is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends, for all your take-out and dine-in needs!
