Big news for the sports community on Vancouver Island!
Pacific FC has begun construction on a massive indoor field house in Langford, designed as a year-round training facility for the professional soccer team and for general community use.
The 55,000 square foot building is being leased on Langford land and is expected to cost $5 million to construct. Once complete, the facility will be the largest indoor field house in the province.
“Construction has already started,” Pacific FC CEO Rob Friend told Victoria Buzz. “It’s a prefabricated building so it’s actually manufactured in the US and then shipped to us…. It’s a very efficient process.”
While Vancouver Island is known for its mild climate, rainy winters make outdoor athletic training difficult.
Regularly wet conditions are why Pacific FC is excited to build an entirely indoor facility, both to accommodate their high-performance athletes and serve as a space for the community to use during adverse weather.
“We’re looking at it as a community investment,” said Friend. “… it’s for all sports on the island, like football, lacrosse, soccer, and field hockey.”
“We’re hoping to run adult leagues and co-oed leagues for things like flag football and ultimate frisbee,” he added.
According to Friend, the Football Club is also discussing different uses of the facility with the city of Langford for events like trade shows, RV shows, boat shows, and mo
“[The facility] has really nice versatility,” said Friend.
Pacific FC’s indoor field house is expected to open in October, 2019.
