If you’ve recently bought a phone online only to find that it can’t receive service, Saanich Police wants to talk to you.
Over the past few months, there have been reports of stolen cell phones being sold on sites like Used Victoria, Varage and Kijiji, across southern Vancouver Island.
Once these phones have been bought, the unsuspecting victim soon realizes that they are blacklisted by every major wireless network.
“The phones are primarily newer model iPhones and Samsungs and look legitimate…unfortunately in each instance, the buyer is left with an expensive paperweight,” reads a statement from Saanich Police.
Anyone affected by this scam is asked to contact Saanich Police at 250-475-4321 and reference file 19-8630.
