A Québec-based ground meat production company has issued a Canada-wide recall for various bison products due to a risk of E. Coli O121 and O103 contamination.

Northfork Bison Distributions Inc. has voluntarily recalled the following products from shelves across the country:

(CFIA)
(CFIA)
(CFIA)

The recall was triggered by reported illnesses linked to these products in the United States, however no such incidents have been recorded in Canada.

“The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings,” reads a statement from the agency.

If you have any of these products at home, the CFIA recommends you throw them out or return to the store where they were purchased.

Symptoms of E. Coli can include nausea, vomiting, mild to severe abdominal cramps and watery to bloody diarrhea.

In severe cases of illness, some people may have seizures or strokes, need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis or live with permanent kidney damage. In even worse cases, people may die.
