One thief in Colwood chose an unfortunate location to target for his crime.
On April 25th West Shore RCMP received a report of a stolen cell phone inside the Western Communities Court House at 1756 Island Highway in Colwood.

According to police, the complainant had left their phone on the countertop in the middle of the lobby for a few minutes.
When they came back to retrieve it, they found it missing.
So they called RCMP who were able to review surveillance footage and identify the suspect as Derek Fast.
“Through their investigation, the unit learned that Fast had been at the court house that day checking in with his Probation Officer. Fast stole the phone off the counter before leaving,” said Cst. Nancy Saggar.
He was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000. Fast will be returning to court for this matter at a later date.
