On Friday, a civilian vessel that was located in Esquimalt Harbour was rescued by Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Esquimalt crews after it experienced an onboard explosion.
According to CFB Esquimalt, the civilian vessel was working on a construction project in the area when an accident involving an explosives detonator onboard caused damage to the ship.

Officials say that two subcontractors on the ship sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
“The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation and no further details are available at this time,” Deputy Public Affairs Officers for CFB Esquimalt Katelyn Moores told Victoria Buzz.
While CFB Esquimalt is best known as being home to the Canadian Navy’s Pacific fleet, it also has a Fire Hall & Emergency Response Centre which serves both the base and the surrounding community.
