Victoria’s annual Greek Fest is back for its 18th year in Victoria — and it brings with it two weekends of live music, folk dance performances, and delicious Greek food!

The event will take place from August 23rd – 25th and August 30th – September 2nd, at the Greek Community Hall on Elk Lake Drive.

Without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about this exuberant event!

Folk dance performances

Each year, the organizers of Greek Fest bring in renowned artists from all over the world to perform at their festival, and this year is no different.

The highlight of the event is Elkelam Dance group who have travelled here all the way from Athens to put on yet another impressive performance this year.

Other groups to look out for are Anemos Greek Dancers, Tharros Greek Dance Academy, and even performances from other cultural groups, such as Sampaguita Dance group, who will perform a Philipino folk dance, and Scottish Country Dancers, a local dance group based in Victoria.

Live Music

No festival is complete without live musical performances, and this year’s line up of artists is quite considerable.

From Kouskous World Folk Music bringing in the rhythms of Eastern Europe, to White Eagle Band who play Polish music, there is sure to be something that pleases even those with the most specific tastes.

Check out their performance schedule here.

The food

Their mouth watering menu features classic Greek food and desserts including houmous and pita, wrapped souvlaki, gyros and of course, baklava!

In case you want to learn how to make some of these treats, the festival will also host cooking classes on Friday, August 23rd and August 30th at 2:55 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Seniors can also enjoy 10% off on the first day, August 23rd.

Church Tours

In addition to enjoying the festivities, visitors can also partake in Church tours at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. every day of the festival as an opportunity to learn about the Greek Orthodox Church.

The Greek Heritage Museum on 4684 Elk Lake Drive will also be conducting tours every day of the festival between 11am to 8pm.

They have undertaken an extensive genealogy project documenting the history of the Greek diaspora in Victoria and Vancouver Island, dating back to the first Greek person to land on the island.

We’ll see you there, Victoria!
