BC wants licensed cannabis suppliers to pitch edible product designs ahead of legalization

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is inviting licensed cannabis producers to pitch non-medical edible product designs.

The open call for edible cannabis products comes ahead of edible legalization in Canada, which is set to happen in December 2019.

Interested suppliers must demonstrate that they have researched their designs and can consistently supply the LDB with legal products like edibles, beverages, topicals, extracts, and more.

“This product call marks an exciting time for the LDB as we work toward introducing new product categories into B.C.’s legal cannabis market,” said Blain Lawson, general manager and CEO of the LDB in a statement.

“We are currently working with over 30 licensed producers and look forward to engaging with new suppliers to expand our wholesale product assortment.”

Products selected by the province will be available in both government-run BC Cannabis Stores and licensed private retailers by the end of the year.

The province’s open product call begins on Thursday, August 15th, 2019, and closes on September 11th, 2019.

Cannabis producers are being reminded that they must provide Health Canada at least 60 days notice before a product can be made available for sale.
