Island Health and the CRD have just lifted an earlier swimming advisory for Hamsterly Beach at Elk Lake.
Earlier this week, authorities advised beach goers to avoid swimming in the lake, particularly at Hamsterly beach and Eagle beach, due to an unsafe amount of bacteria in the water.

Sampling results at Hamsterly beach show bacteriological counts below acceptable limits in the water, and the beach is therefore considered safe for swimming.
However, the advisory remains in place for Eagle beach at this time as water samples from that area show high levels of bacteria.
“As a precautionary measure, it is NOT recommended for people or pets to enter the water at Eagle Beach,” reads a statement.
