This flyover would eliminate the need for drivers to cross the busy highway when turning onto Keating Cross Road.

“These improvements to Highway 17 will greatly alleviate the chronic congestion issues people experience daily on this busy regional transportation route,” said Jonathan Wilkinson, federal Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, on behalf of the Canadian government.

“Creating more vehicle capacity and smoother traffic flow will allow people to spend less time on the road and more time at their destinations, supporting economic activity and a higher quality of life.”

The changes also include a realigned southbound on-ramp to Victoria.

Funding for this will come jointly from the Government of Canada and the District of Central Saanich.

The federal government is pitching in over $16 million while the municipality will be spending $2.5 million on it.

The provincial government’s contribution for the project is pending Treasury Board approval.
