If you’re planning a trip downtown to enjoy the weather this weekend, you may want to make note of a list of temporary road closures planned for the city.

As cyclists from around the world arrive to partake in the 9th annual Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria on Saturday, drivers and buses must make way for the race to take place.

Meanwhile on Sunday, a section of Fort Street will be shut down to vehicle traffic for approximately 12 hours as workers disassemble and remove a tower crane from a development site.

Saturday, August 17th

Tour de Rock full road closures:

  • 9:50 a.m. – 2:50 p.m. – Oak Bay (Beach Drive, King George Terrace)
  • 10:05 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. – Victoria (Crescent Rd, Hollywood Cres, Dallas Rd and waterfront perimeter of James Bay including Erie St, St Lawrence, Kingston St, Montreal St, Quebec St, Pendray St, Belleville St)
  • 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. – Victoria Inner Harbour (Belleville St between Menzies St and Government St)

Partial closures are also planned for several parts of Greater Victoria, with drivers being permitted in the opposite direction of the cyclists. Click here for more details.

Sunday, August 18th

800 block of Fort Street

Fort Street between Blanshard and Quadra will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 7 a.m. til approximately 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Pedestrians will be directed to the sidewalk on the south side of the street, and cyclists will be directed to dismount and walk their bikes along the south sidewalk past the work area. 

Access to all businesses and residential buildings in the area will be maintained for pedestrians. 

BC Transit will also be rerouting buses along this section of the road for the day.
