In case there was any doubt about the superior quality of life offered by several municipalities in the Greater Victoria area, a recent Macleans report has named 7 communities among the top 50 in the country.
For their 2019 ‘Best Communities in Canada’ list, Macleans ranked 415 municipalities and compared them in the following categories: Wealth and economy, affordability, population growth, taxes, commute, crime, weather, access to health care, amenities and culture.

Based on their analysis, Oak Bay, Colwood, North Saanich, Central Saanich, Saanich, Langford, and Sidney are among the top 50 communities in Canada.

In comparison, Victoria placed #121 in the ranked list, Esquimalt was #159, and Sooke clocked in at #184.
