This downtown Victoria shop is home to some seriously weird stuff

Share

One of Victoria’s more peculiar art havens, the Little Shop of Strange, can be found tucked away in Market Square.

The owner of the gallery, Michelle Potentier, features dozens of local artists, welcomes newcomers, and even showcases number of her own pieces on display.

The shop is packed floor to ceiling with a variety of art pieces and objects you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere else.

They’ve got loads of costume wear, including handmade jewelry, bedazzled bodices, and headdresses (some with real rabbit ears).

You can also pick up one of the numerous paintings and shadowbox pieces, so that boring empty wall in your bedroom doesn’t have to stay that way for long.

Stranger things

Have you always wanted to see Frida Kahlo as a taxidermied rat wearing a little black bun? Or a tiny mouse prince, sword drawn, standing on a toadstool?

If you’re into the stranger things in life, the shop is packed full of animal bits, bones, and taxidermy.

For those who are into making their own art, there are animal fragments for purchase: skulls, wings, rabbit feet, whatever’s been recently foraged. If you make something you want to share with the world, let Michelle know!

This haunt for locals and tourists alike consistently features new items. You can see their newest wares on Facebook and Instagram.

If you see something you like but don’t think you’ll be able to make it to the shop before it’s sold, you can purchase it online by sending them a message.
