Not only is the Victoria International Wine Festival returning for another year – happening September 19th-21st – they’ve offered up some fantastic tips on how you can select the finest vino.. and you don’t even have to be a wine expert!

Without further ado, here are four tips from the Victoria International Wine Festival on how you can choose the best wine possible from your local liquor store:
Finding the right place to buy
If you’re in the market for a great bottle of grapes, doing a quick search online for the which locations carry the best selection is always a good idea – many liquor stores specialize in different forms of liquor and it’s no different when it comes to the world of wine. If you can find a store that boasts about its wine selection and education, that’s always best!
Don’t be afraid to ask questions..
.. that’s what the staff is there for! Generally, liquor store staff is aware of how daunting buying wine can be, and they’re more than happy to help. Let them know your budget and what taste profiles you are looking for, and more importantly use words like fruity, full, dry, smooth, and light to help aid in the decision. Also, make sure to ask them why they are suggesting the wine they do choose!
Use the power of the internet
Once you’ve got a list narrowed down to a few favourites, don’t hesitate to look up the wine on Google – you won’t offend anyone if you whip out your phone and dive into some research! This will help you get a great sense what you are about to purchase and how other consumers describe the wine.
Attend a wine tasting event
Like the Victoria International Wine Festival! It’s a great example of an event in which you get to walk through a huge selection of wine – all in one place. This will allow you to interact directly with wine experts that want to walk you through their portfolio, and you can simply mark off the wines you love in the Festival brochure, and there you’ll have a list of must-haves!
