Whether you’ve lived here all your life or just for a year or two, there’s no denying the climate on the island is best suited for a relaxed lifestyle.
And a recent Macleans study shows that retirees love Greater Victoria for just that reason, among others.
In their latest report, the magazine issued a list of ‘Best communities to retire in Canada” in 2019 and among the top 25 cities, nine are in Greater Victoria.
Here are their respective rankings:
- Langford – #5
- Colwood – #6
- Central Saanich – #7
- Saanich – #13
- Sidney – #14
- Victoria – #16
- Esquimalt – #18
- Oak Bay – #21
- North Saanich – #22
For this report, Macleans used the same methodology as their ‘Best communities in Canada 2019‘ study, with greater emphasis on weather and health care, and eliminating labour market statistics.
Perhaps surprisingly, the #1 best city in Canada for retirees is Toronto. This is explained by the fact that the largest city in the country has access to better health care, public transportation, and entertainment options than idyllic seaside or countryside locations.
