A GoFundMe has been created to help support a single mom who suffered a concussion after a truck rammed into three vehicles and a cyclist at a downtown Victoria intersection last month.

On August 24th, a white truck entered the intersection from Bay Street at high-speed, colliding with three vehicles in the intersection.

The first vehicle hit can be seen flipping and landing upside down a distance away – the cyclist managed to stop amidst the chaos and surveillance footage shows him falling backwards before he gets up and runs from the debris.

One of the people injured in the collision is Cheryl, last name unknown – a nurse, and recently divorced single mom of two whose car was totalled as a result of the incident.

“She is at a loss as to how to pay her rent…”

According to the GoFundMe page started by her friend Shaleen Jones, Cheryl’s divorce left her without savings, and “she is at a loss as to how to pay her rent, put food on the table, pay for daycare, let alone buy another car.”

While she is due for a settlement from ICBC, that could take weeks or months to arrive, and doctors are unable to tell her when she can return to her job as a nurse.

Through her fundraising campaign, Shaleen is hoping to raise $5,000 to cover her friend’s rent, back to school costs child care, food, and hydro for the next six weeks.

“As her car was only valued at $2000, any additional funds will go towards the purchase of a replacement vehicle,” reads the post.

As of the time of publication, the community has donated $3,540 to the fundraiser.
