View Royal fire crews had their hands full on Wednesday after a brush fire broke out in the early evening.

The fire, first reported at approximately 6:30 p.m., was located on the Galloping Goose Trail behind the Victoria General Hospital (south of the Helmcken Road overpass in View Royal).

While it was doused pretty quickly, investigators are concerned as the fire was growing rapidly and could have affected homes in the area.

It has been deemed suspicious and police are now seeking two men in connection with the incident.

“We have received information that there were two males in their early 20’s on BMX bicycles who appeared to be trying to put out the fire,” said Cst. Nancy Saggar, media relations officer for the West Shore RCMP detachment.

Both men left the scene prior to police arrival.

“We are asking these males to come forward and speak to police as they may have information regarding the fire investigation.”

West Shore RCMP and the View Royal Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
