Tonight was one for the record books for former Victoria resident Tristan Connelly.
Connelly – who joined UFC Vancouver’s card on extremely short notice – not only defeated his opponent Michel Pereira in tonight’s welterweight bout, but did so with a unanimous decision.
Now fighting out of Vancouver, Connelly hit the octagon at Rogers Arena tonight with only five days notice, stepping in after Pereira’s original opponent Sergey Khandozhko dropped out due to Visa issues.

The match was not without some flashy moves from Pereira and plenty of back and forth from both fighters, though it was Connelly who prevailed in the end with the judges scoring 29-28, 29-27, 29-27 over three rounds, all in favour of the local talent.
To the excited roars of the crowd from Rogers Arena, Tristan Connelly recorded his first official UFC victory, and his professional record improved to 14-6 while Pereira clocked in at 22-10-0.
