Members of the public are invited to attend the Celebration of Life for local restaurateur Tom Ferris, owner of Ferris’ Upstairs Seafood & Oyster Bar and Perro Negro Tapas.

Ferris passed away last month after a short battle with cancer and leaves behind his wife Sandy, daughter Paula, grandchildren Alexa and Max, and pug Molly.

“His generosity and friendship has touched countless staff and customers alike and he, much like the restaurant he founded 28 years ago, has become a Victoria institution,” writes Ferris’ restaurant co-owner Dave Craggs.

In his honour, the Ferris’ Restaurant Group has set up the ‘Thomas John Ferris Memorial scholarship fund’ which will be used to help hospitality workers afford continuing education.

“Post secondary education was important to Tom and this fund will be supported annually through the restaurants,” says Craggs.

However, donations to the fund can be made through a GoFundMe campaign and all proceeds from the cash bar at his memorial will be contributed to the scholarship.

Ferris’ Celebration of Life will take place at the Bayview Place Roundhouse on Thursday October 3rd, and feature food trucks, live music and a giant Tom cut out for anyone who wants to take selfies.

Those who knew Tom Ferris personally are also invited to share their photos and stories of the restaurateur with the organizers by emailing them at shortsandbirks@gmail.com.
