A 24-year-old woman was airlifted to a Victoria hospital with life-threatening injuries after she was struck by a motorist at a crosswalk in Nanaimo.

At around 8:40 p.m. on November 11th, the woman was hit by a driver in a newer model Dodge Aries at the pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection of Albion St and Bruce Ave.

The driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old woman, was heading southbound along Bruce Ave when the collision occurred. She stayed on-site to cooperate with the police investigation.

Investigators stated that the crosswalk was not lit and the pedestrian was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing while walking.

While the cause of the collision has not been determined, officers noted that it was raining, the roads were slick, and there was glare on the road.

Police also found earbuds at the scene that belonged to the victim.

The vehicle has been seized and will undergo a mechanical inspection, and the road was closed for several hours while officers examined the scene.
