Have you always wanted to perform your favourite rap song but could never find the right venue to do it?
Well, you’re in luck (pun intended).
On Thursday November 14th, Lucky Bar will be celebrating their 5th year anniversary of the Hip Hop karaoke night that has allowed people of all talent levels to get on stage and deliver their best verses for an equally lively crowd.
Whether you’re a fan of the newer rappers or prefer to keep it old school, all are welcome to make hit songs of any era their own in a venue that has previously hosted professionals on their stage.
Over the years a wide variety of acts have graced the bar with performances that range from eclectic to spot on impersonations.
Occasionally, more experienced guests like Eddy Vocals have treated the crowd to quirky mash-ups like this one of Outkast’s song ‘Bombs over Baghdad’ mixed with Rick Astley’s ‘Never gonna give you up’ featured in a 2015 promo for the event:
Hosted by local multifaceted performer Shane Battley, the monthly event has become popular among Victorians looking for a night out that allows them to be a part of the live entertainment as opposed to just watching from the crowd.
Battley also hosts other Lucky Bar events such as Slow Jams, which is a night dedicated to classic R&B hits. He also occasionally doubles as a DJ at the venue.
If you plan to get on stage, make sure to email firstname.lastname@example.org beforehand to request the song or songs you’re looking to perform so that the Hip Hop Karaoke team can provide a time slot.
This could be the big break you need to make you Canada’s next big hip hop star!
