One man has been arrested in connection with an incident that had Edward Milne Community School in Sooke under hold and secure for nearly 3 hours on Thursday.

Police say they took action after reports that an adult male was possibly planning a “serious incident” at the school.

According to a statement from Cpl. Chris Manseau, the man was located and arrested through a partnership between Sooke RCMP, West Shore RCMP, and Victoria Police.

Cpl. Manseau told Victoria Buzz that the individual was not a staff member at the school, but cannot confirm whether he was a student.

“This incident was resolved quickly and safely due to the quick actions of the faculty at Edward Milne Community School, the school district and our partners at Victoria Police and the West Shore RCMP Detachment,” said Sooke RCMP detachment commander Staff Sergeant Brett Sinden.

Students at Edward Milne Community School were not allowed to leave their classrooms from approximately 11:30 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. on Thursday while the hold and secure was in place.

Officers remained tight lipped about their search while it was ongoing, and have yet to release any information about why the hold and secure was deemed necessary.

Cpl. Manseau adds that no injuries were reported during the course of their search and arrest.
