5 things to do in and around Victoria today, Tuesday December 24th

Things are beginning to wind down in Victoria, as people settle into their Christmas Eve preparations — wrapping gifts, singing carols, and fasting before their turkey dinners! 

But there are still some great events taking place around the city, and we’ve listed a few here. 

We hope you enjoy these activities, or any others you partake in, and we’d like to wish you and yours a very happy holidays from all of us here at Victoria Buzz!

Irish Christmas Eve

Depending on where you’re from, this is either a departure from your typical Christmas Eve activity or it’s the most traditional way you can celebrate! 

The Irish Times begin their Christmas Eve with breakfast, followed by Irish Stew for lunch. Live music begins at 5:00 p.m. with Tom Morrissey then Knacker’s Yard at 8:00 p.m. 

Then, if the Guinness hasn’t filled you up, you can enjoy a Christmas Dinner with all the fixings!

Sing-along at the Castle

Head to Craigdarroch Castle for an afternoon of song-filled joy with Alexander Ferguson at the Castle, and sing along to classic Christmas tunes to get in the holiday spirit! Song books will be provided so come one and come all.

  • When: December 24th, 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Gingerbread Showcase

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Parkside Hotel! 

Habitat for Humanity’s 11th annual Gingerbread Showcase has been running since November 16th. The showcase brings people of all skill-levels together to compete against each other in a gingerbread house-making competition. 

  • When: December 24th, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. everyday until January 5th, 2020
  • Where: Parkside Hotel, 810 Humboldt Street

Carols in the Candlelight

The choir and congregation of First-Metropolitan United Church will host a service of Carols in the Candlelight on Christmas Eve. Music will begin at 7:00 p.m., offered by harpist Annabelle Stanley. The choral service begins at 7:30 p.m. and tells the Christmas story through traditional readings, familiar carols, and choral anthems, surrounded by the glowing warmth of candlelight.

Hanukkah Speakeasy

But don’t forget, there are more holidays than just Christmas taking place right now! 

The Victoria Event Centre is hosting a Hanukkah Speakeasy, with live swing jazz from the Capital City Syncopators, silent film clips, and, of course, some great cocktails and ambiance! Folks will also be lighting a Menorah and spinning dreidels. Bring your friends for a jolly good time!
