Alcohol believed to be a factor in Thursday night single-vehicle collision in Saanich

Police, with the help of witnesses, apprehended an allegedly impaired driver after a collision in Saanich.

At around 10:20 p.m. on Thursday night, a witness in a vehicle reported a driver in a white Toyota sedan pass by at high speed near Mayfair mall at 3147 Douglas Street.

As the witness continued towards the Saanich Police/Fire department on Vernon Ave, they encountered the same vehicle again, this time resting sideways across the highway, having sustained some damage with all its airbags deployed.

The damaged vehicle then started to drive away, but several other witnesses followed it and called police, until it stopped on the off-ramp at McKenzie Avenue.

When police arrived on scene, they were able to locate and speak to the driver of the sedan and launch an investigation to determine the exact details of its collision.

While no further details have been released at this time, police have reason to believe alcohol was a factor in single-vehicle incident.

“We would like to thank the actions of all the witnesses involved, “said Cst. Markus Anastasiades.

“They clearly believed the driver’s actions posed a serious risk to the public, and they took the appropriate steps by calling the police and then remained on scene to speak to investigators.”
