The Sidney branch of an 85-year-old Greater Victoria store has announced that it will be closing soon.

In a Facebook post on Saturday December 14th, Capital Iron stated that after a “great deal of time, thought and research”, they will close in January 2020 when the lease for their building expires.

The 9768 Fifth Street location first opened its doors in 1988 and its owners say they will be searching for another available location in Sidney to reopen.

“We have grown alongside the community and have always strived to provide product lines that are second to none, while maintaining the outstanding customer service you have come to know and expect from Capital Iron,” reads the Facebook post.

“We loved being a part of your dynamic community. Our Downtown Victoria and Langford locations continue to thrive and will be open to serve you.”

Capital Iron was originally founded in 1934 and still stands in one of the oldest buildings in downtown Victoria.

Since its inception, the family-owned and operated business has evolved from a scrap business to a successful local retail outlet with several locations.

The company sells a wide range of household products including housewares, camping, hardware, gardening, hot tubs, patio furniture, home decor, fireplaces, fabrics, and Christmas products.
