Be on the lookout for a Santa imposter!

Shorty after 2 p.m. Monday, a man wearing a Santa hat walked into the Bank of Montreal in the Terminal Park Mall in Nanaimo.

According to police, the suspect approached a bank teller and indicated he had a weapon and demanded cash.

An undisclosed amount of money was handed over and the suspect was last seen running through the parking lot.

Police say the majority of the suspect’s clothing was discarded in the parking lot – most notably a Santa hat, but also included a leather jacket, gloves and sunglasses.

The discarded items have been located and seized by police.

The suspect is described as:

* white male, 40-50 years of age
* 5 ft. 8, medium build
* brown/grey goatee
* wearing a Castles and Crooks hoody
