The ovens are firing up, the turkeys are being basted, and the coffee is being brewed for Victoria’s biggest and most charitable Christmas lunch.

Once again, Our Place Society are feeding Victoria’s most vulnerable this holiday season, with a special Christmas lunch on Tuesday, December 17th.

Kitchen Manager Brian Cox and his team are busy preparing 450 kg of turkey, 225 kg of potatoes, 110 kg of stuffing, 100 kg of vegetables, 115 litres of gravy, 25 kg of cranberry sauce, 125 pies and over 1,500 cups of coffee.

The food will be offered to over 800 hungry people, served to them by local politicians, community leaders, and volunteers.

Our Place’s food services have been in a much greater need this year, with a 74% increase in the number of meals served in October and November from the same time period last year.

Last year, Our Place served over 1,300 meals at their annual holiday meal.

“It’s all about the smiles,” says Grant McKenzie, communications director of Our Place, in a press release. “A special meal plus the fellowship of family means so much to people living in poverty.

“The Our Place staff and volunteers are often the closest family some people have, and we want everyone to know they are loved and cared for.”
