West Shore RCMP have notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident that resulted in one woman being taken to the hospital.

At around 9 p.m. on Wednesday December 11th, a taxi driver made a report at the front counter of the West Shore RCMP detachment located at 698 Atkins Ave.

He stated that he had a female passenger in his vehicle who was refusing to, or unable to pay her cab fare.

After speaking to both the taxi driver and the woman, police determined that she was intoxicated. Officers then proceeded to arrest her for being intoxicated in a public place and fraud.

However, a statement from West Shore RCMP says the woman attempted to resist the arrest and as a result suffered non-life threatening injuries for which she was transported to a hospital.

The incident has now been turned over to IIOBC for investigation to determine whether police action or inaction is linked to the woman’s injuries.
