The last year of the decade was the first for nearly 400,000 babies born in Canada this year.
As 2019 comes to a close and we look back on the important moments of the year, one of its most lasting and significant hallmarks is sure to be the names ascribed to those who greeted the world for the first time this year.

BabyCenter has just released their annual lists of most popular names for girls and boys in Canada over the past year.
There were several changes among girls’ names this year, with ‘Sophia’ taking top spot, rising up from 18th place last year.
The Greek-origin name is followed by other top contenders like Olivia, Emma, Amelia, and Aria.
Unlike the girls’ top 100, consistency was the name of the game this year for boys with the most popular names pretty much unchanged from 2018.
