Vehicle with foggy windows rear ends Saanich police cruiser

A driver in Saanich learned about the dangers of not clearing their windows after rear ending a police cruiser.

At around 8:45 a.m. on Monday, December 16th, a Saanich police car was stopped on Tillicum Road near Gorge Road West when it was rear ended by a vehicle.

When the officer stepped out to talk to the driver, he noticed that the front windshield was covered in ice and the inside of the windshield also had condensation buildup.

The driver was given a ticket for driving with obstructed view, which includes a fine of $109.

The Saanich Police officer sustained minor injuries in the incident and will be recovering at home.

“This collision was completely preventable. It takes less than five minutes to clear the ice and defrost the interior windows of a vehicle, and taking those preventative steps are just one way in keeping our roads safe,” said Cst. Markus Anastasiades.

“Keeping an ice scraper, squeegee and a small towel inside your vehicle are recommended.”
