5 things to do in and around Victoria today, Tuesday January 7th

Due to licensing battles between NBC and Netflix regarding their own streaming services, Netflix will lose their rights to The Office in Canada in late 2020. If that news upsets you, then maybe Distrikt Night Club’s Office Trivia Night is the competition for you. 

If not, check out a historic story-telling night at Hermann’s, a swing-dancing night at the Victoria Event Centre, or a few of the other great events happening in and around Victoria today!

Office Trivia Night

Ready to prove to your friends that you truly are the biggest Office fan? Sixty Watt Trivia is hosting another themed trivia night, this time for the hit NBC show about Michael Scott and the Dunder Mifflin team. With great prizes on the line, now’s the time to binge-watch and prepare! 

  • When: January 7th, doors at 6:45 p.m., quiz at 7:30 p.m.

Ripper and the Royals 

Café Historique continues to explore history through a new lens: the telling of great stories. This time around, learn about Jack the Ripper — the most infamous murderer in modern history — and ask yourself if he was either a member of the royal family or someone acting at their behest. Join Dr Simon Devereaux (UVic History) for a critical examination of several different and increasingly bizarre iterations of this strange story.

Speakeasy

Relive the Roaring 20s (from the 20th century) with a night of live swing jazz, classic cocktails, and swing dancing. We have two great bands alternating every Tuesday night: The Capital City Syncopators / The Flying Saucers.

Lego Exhibition

The ever-popular LEGO exhibition has returned to Sidney Museum, featuring a wider range of themes including Star Wars, Minecraft, Friends, Harry Potter, Batman and vintage sets! Visitors can learn about the history of the many Lego models on display, enjoy a special opportunity to guess how many bricks comprise the giant Lego Tower, or challenge themselves with a scavenger hunt with three levels of difficulty for all ages.

Wet’suwet’en Solidarity: Invasion Screening and Fundraiser

Head to the Student Union Building at UVic for a screening of Invasion, a new film about the Unist’ot’en Camp, Gidimt’en Checkpoint and the larger Wet’suwet’en Nation standing up to the Canadian government and corporations who continue colonial violence against Indigenous People.

Entry is by donation, and all proceeds from the door and merchandise will be split between Unist’ot’en camp and Gidim’ten checkpoint.
