BC Ferries has cancelled dozens of sailings due to the extreme storm currently affecting Vancouver Island.
The cancellations are on the Swartz Bay-Tsawassen route, Duke Point-Tsawassen route, Comox-Powell River route, Cortes Island-Quadra Island route, Campbell River-Quadra Island route, and Powell River-Texada Island route.
Cancellations were also announced for the Horseshoe Bay – Departure Bay route as well, but the sailings have resumed with a modified schedule.
The company announced the cancellations around 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3rd, in a tweet.
A strong Pacific storm will is expected to bring a period of significant wind to the south coast tonight and Saturday morning.
Southeast winds will gradually strengthen throughout today, particularly for areas near Haro Strait and the Strait of Georgia. Late in the evening winds will briefly reach 70 km/h before becoming southerly.
