West Shore RCMP is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who allegedly committed an indecent act at Thetis Lake Regional Park on New Year’s Day.

In a release, police said the incident took place around noon along the waterfront between the main beach and the dog beach – the incident was reported to them today.

The lewd act was witnessed by two 12-year-old boys who were at the lake.

“The youth describe observing a lone male suspect masturbating near the lake. The suspect was only wearing boxers at the time and had exposed genitalia,” said Cst. Nancy Saggar, the media relations officer for West Shore RCMP.

“Following the indecent act, the suspect got up, went for a swim in the lake, got dressed and left. The suspect did not speak to the witnesses or make direct contact with them.”

The suspect is described as:

  • Caucasian male in his 30’s
  • 6’ft tall, average build
  • Reddish/orange hair
  • Wearing dark-coloured pants with a blue plaid jacket carrying a small leather shoestring backpack

Police are reminding the public to report incidents such as this immediately as it will increase their chances of locating a suspect.

Anyone with information or if you were at the park, you are asked to contact the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264, or report anonymously through crime stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477.
