UPDATE: Nanaimo RCMP have found the owner of the urn and are making plans to return the urn and its contents.

Earlier: Nanaimo RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual who left an urn filled with ashes at the foot of a City of Nanaimo park bench.

The urn, which is brown and inscribed with golden wheat stalks, was found underneath a bench near the Nanaimo Yacht Club on Saturday, January 11th.

Investigators found a serial number on the urn, which they provided to the director of Nanaimo funeral homes. The director, however, indicated the urn does not belong to any funeral homes.

The investigation is continuing and if anyone has information about the owner or where the urn originated, please call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2020-1290.
