Residents of the building were evacuated for approximately 2 hours as authorities worked to reach the man who police say was “in crisis.”

“During the course of the officers’ interactions with the man, he made concerning statements and took actions which created the potential for injury to nearby residents, officers and himself,” reads a statement from VicPD.

The man was taken into custody after several hours of negotiation and then transported to hospital. He was not injured during the interaction.

Victoria Fire Department, Fortis BC, building managers, E-Comm dispatchers and call-takers, and BC Emergency Health Services paramedics also assisted in the safely apprehending the man.

No charges have been filed in this case.
