In an update on Friday afternoon, Saanich Police have released a CCTV image of the suspect that allegedly stabbed a security guard who tried to stop him from shoplifting.

The incident took place at around 10:45 p.m. on December 28th in the Walmart at Uptown Shopping Centre.

According to police, the suspect slashed the security guard on the arm when he tried to confront him after allegedly witnessing him shoplifting at the store.

The CCTV captured image released by police appears to show the suspect clutching a knife in his right hand while readying his bicycle.

He is described as a Caucasian man between 40-50 years old and was wearing a red baseball cap and a black jacket. At the time of the incident, he was also carrying a backpack with distinctive white piping around the edges.

Police say he left the scene on a red BMX bike and was last seen heading in the direction of Oak Street.
