We’re already halfway through February!

And what better way to celebrate that momentous occasion than to partake in a long weekend full of family-friendly fun.

From gardening, to tons of music and all of the family-themed events you can imagine, here are 15 things to do this (hopefully) sunny Family Day long weekend:

Victoria Seedy Saturday

Seedy Saturday’s focus is on LOCAL, organic, sustainable gardening and food security.  Presentations and workshops are presented throughout the day with topics for beginners and experts. The exhibitor gallery features over 60 vendors and exhibitors, seed and book exchanges, café, children’s area, door prizes and much more.

LinkUp Tours Presents: Singles Night YYJ!

They’ll be visiting 4-5 different bars in Victoria over the evening with some quick ice-breakers and games to get you started mingling.

They will be walking from venue to venue, dress appropriately for the weather!

Stolen Sisters Memorial March 2020 Victoria

Let us walk together as a community to say Indigenous women’s, 2spirits’, and girls’ lives are sacred. Let us remember our teachings and honour those who have been taken from us.

Shusenjo: The Main Battleground of the Comfort Women Issue

What historians call the Imperial Army’s sexual enslavement of tens of thousands of Korean women and others in military brothels during World War II is perhaps Japan’s most heated present-day diplomatic dilemma. Director Mike Dezaki explores the issue dividing the country across clear ideological lines.

Kristina Helene & Thomas Kinzel at the Pacific Lounge

Kristina is a Calgary born singer/songwriter, and he then went on to work with producer Greg Gunhold and was nominated semi-finalist in the ISC (International Songwriting Competition) at the age of 15 two years in a row for her song “From Here” and has also won honourable mention awards from the Billboard Music for her song “Where is this going?” and twice for “How Could You”.

Make It Rain – A dance-off and collaboration brew

A 90 minute dance competition while their brewers add hops to the kettle. First place wins a night’s stay at the Spinnakers guest houses including breakfast and a chocolate and beer pairing. Second and third place win two dozen oysters from The Wandering Mollusk Oyster

Live Music Series – Lynne Hanson & Linda McRae

Lynne Hanson is known for her hard-living style of music, mixing gritty ballads with driving roots-tinged guitar.  You’ll remember her spirited performance with Lynn Miles, as The LYNNeS! Linda Mcrae is a gifted multi-instrumentalist, BC Entertainment Hall of Fame Pioneer Inductee and former member of Spirit of the West. She is a captivating artist who writes unforgettable melodies and thought-provoking lyrics.

JAMMIES & TOONS: OKKO’S INN

The ritual of Sunday morning animations and unhealthy cereal returns to The Vic. Come out to the theatre in your pyjamas and they’ll supply the milk and cereal. How nice is that? And for parents: delicious Fernwood Coffee to jump-start your day.

11th Annual Island Beer & Spirits Festival

The Strathcona welcomes the return of their annual Island Beer & Spirits Festival. Tickets include two (2) 4oz beer tasters or 1/2oz spirit tasters and one (1) food ticket.

Garden City Soul Club & the VEC present: For Dancers Only

If you have never been to one of these events let us give you the low down. This is a floor fillin’, soul shakin’ DANCE PARTY!
They are constantly digging up new tracks for your dancing pleasure, and play Northern Soul rarities, Stax and Motown classics, Modern Soul bangers, and Funky floor fillers.

Sidney Family Day Weekend Lego Event

Visit the Lego Exhibition at Sidney Museum, where a multitude of models are on display. One of the highlights will be the construction of a giant LEGO model of a Pirate Galleon built by Canada’s only professional LEGO builder, Robin Sather. Throughout the two-day build at the Guide & Scout Hall (9732 Second Street) he will interact with kids and adults alike, answering questions and explaining the dynamic process of planning and building a giant LEGO creation.

Family Day at the Royal BC Museum

What’s this year’s featured animal for the family portrait? Come find out! While you’re there, stroll through Old Town and reacquaint yourself with the little details that you always loved as a child. Visit the Natural History gallery to take a selfie in front of any of our classic dioramas. And head to the First Peoples gallery to learn more about the Indigenous peoples of BC

Open Mic Night at The Mint

Come showcase your talent, whether it’s music, comedy, dance, spoken word, or poetry… you name it! Host Pete McMastar will be bringing some instruments to get some jams going!

A Varied Extravaganza of Sorts

It’s a new decade and they can’t wait to christen it with the first Extravaganza! Hosted by Holly Shirt and Picholas Cage This is a very special extravaganza as we are honouring and paying tribute to the life of one of the co creators of this very show! It’s is the one and only KeithSonics birthday and they are welcoming him one year closer to the end with wacky, wild and weird performances of all kinds.

Family Day FREE Yoga Class

A chance for families to enjoy active and relaxation time together. Children must be 4 years of age or older.
