Nanaimo RCMP are searching for a 44-year-old man wanted for several violent offences.

44-year-old John Wilfred John has been issued arrest warrants for charges of Forcible Confinement, Assault and Threats.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, these charges stem from an incident on January 6th, 2020 in which John allegedly attempted to kidnap a woman and assaulted her in the process.

The victim was known to the offender, says Cst. Gary O’Brien, and was taken from her home in central Nanaimo and put into a vehicle.

“She managed to escape and while hiding, called the police which lead to the suspect being located and arrested,” said Cst. O’Brien in an email to Victoria Buzz.

However John failed to appear in court after he was released from custody on a Promise To Appear.

Police have not been able to locate John since his disappearance, leading to several warrants being issued for his arrest.

He is described as a white man standing 5’4″, weighing 155 lbs, and has short brown hair and hazel eyes.

Anyone who knows of his whereabouts is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
