Just a few weeks after the 12th anniversary of Lindsay Buziak’s death, an online petition is calling for the removal of Saanich Police from the investigation of her murder.
On February 2nd 2008, 24-year-old Victoria realtor Lindsay Buziak was murdered while showing a house in Gordon Head. She was found to have been stabbed multiple times in an upstairs bedroom.
Her father, Jeff Buziak has been gathering information about his daughter’s murder for years, even launching a website and creating a detailed timeline of the events leading up to her death.
Buziak’s case has been widely covered in Canadian and American media including NBC’s Dateline in 2010 and a Dr. Phil episode last year.
For years, Jeff Buziak has maintained that Saanich Police has mishandled the investigation into his daughter’s murder and now an online petition started by an American true crime aficionado shows just how many people agree with him.
The petition, launched about a week ago, calls for Lindsay Buziak’s file to be turned over to a different authority who may be able to shed some new light on the case.
“Her murder remains unsolved by Saanich Police. The corruption and absolute conflict of interests in this case are insurmountable,” reads the petition.
“She deserves justice. Her family deserves justice. 12 years this has gone on without any kind of resolution in sight. ”
On February 2nd, 2018, the 10th anniversary of Lindsay Buziak’s death, Saanich Police released a statement reaffirming their commitment to solving the case.
Saanich Police say that their investigation is subject to review by the RCMP Office of Investigational Standards and Practices, which has thus far approved of their investigation process and that their team includes officers from the mainland.
The police department also noted that they were aware of many internet and social media forums that speculate on case, but regard most of the information as “false, misleading, or deliberately fabricated.”
While theories both professional and amateur surround the case, one thing is for certain: what happened to Lindsay Buziak will not soon be forgotten.
As of the time of publication, the petition has garnered over 2,660 signatures and aims ot reach 5,000.
It is addressed to British Columbia’s Minister of Public Safety, Mike Farnworth.
